Expectations from the head of the school

Inspiring young talents to give back to society

I took office of the head of the school on August 5th 2005. Education to me is a life-time career and I am passionate about it. I come from a humble background; my father died when I was five so my mother had to raise me single-handedly. After years of success, I deeply feel that the three most important things in life are: devotion to your parents, education and good health. My past experience has inspired me to go into education and care about social benefits. Through my passion for education and social benefits, I believe I can give back to society.

Currently, there are around 7,200 students at Chi-Ying Senior High School studying in various subjects. Chi-Ying has a solid system and is becoming increasingly influential in recent years. I believe with my professional outlook and vision I can lead Chi-Ying in becoming a well-known top-class school. I’m devoting myself to achieve the goals I have outlined below alongside all the members of the school.

Creating a learning environment based on patronage

After taking office of the chairman of the board at Chi-Ying Senior High School, I’ve started a campaign of offering free school meals to students with similar humble backgrounds. Lecturers were also offered free school meals so they could spend valuable time with students. During this seven years campaign, we’ve invested over fifty-eight million NT dollars into the project. Aside from this, I’ve also set up a scholarship for students who came from humble backgrounds who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements. So far, we’ve given out five hundred twenty million NT dollars of scholarship funding and a total of 1,021 students have benefited from our scholarship program.

Creating a harmonious working environment

Education requires the encouragement and devotion from the educators. I have the responsibility to create a comfortable working environment for our lecturers so they  can fully devote themselves to education and pass on their knowledge to students with patience and caring. Eventually this will have the impact of forming a harmonious teacher and student relationship. To achieve this goal in the last seven years, I’ve launched a series of campaigns sending the total amount of six hundred and sixty million NT dollars on school staff benefit programs, compared to the past where eighty three million more dollars have been invested each year towards benefits for the members of the school.

Creating a top school that nourishes students in both professional and virtual ways

Today at Chi-Ying Senior High School, our normal classes are focused on gaining entry into medical schools, the National Taiwan University, the National Tsing Hua University and the National Chiao Tung University. Many of our students are qualified to study at top schools like Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School, Taipei First Girls High School and National Wu-Ling Senior High School. We’ve even received an entry request from a Jianguo student who achieved the full score on the Basic Competence Test for Junior High School Students, making Chi-Ying the first private school that recruits full score BCTJHSS students successfully. We have also set the record of the first private school that attracts Jianguo students during Jianguo’s 110 years of history since its establishment.

In 2011, we’ve had outstanding results for higher education entry examination with students achieving 74% at Basic Competence Test for Junior High School Students. Students were offered entrance to the National Yang-Ming University School of Medicine, the National Defense University School of Medicine and the NTU Department of Physics. Furthermore, our students from vocational classes have also shown amazing results in various competitions. Our goal is to provide a full dimensional education that does not just focus on the academic side of learning, but also the development of students’ personalities. I look forward to an even more impressive admission list for our continuing classes, better competition performance for our practical ability classes and great performance from our art students.

There are still improvements that can be made to make Chi-Ying a better school. For example we aim to model Chi-Ying to a school that embodies humanity, technology, globalization and aesthetics, which allows students to acquire knowledge in a positive and joyful way. I strongly believe with everyone’s collective efforts, we can turn Chi-Ying into a top-class school.
